He studied at the Royal School of Drama Theater in Stockholm from 1949 to 1952 . He was the owner of the Brunnsgatan 4 theater in Stockholm - from the day it was founded (in 1986 ) until his death.
The most famous film roles are in the films of Ingmar Bergman “ Fanny and Alexander ” (father) and Andrei Tarkovsky “ Sacrifice ” (postman Otto). He played in several film adaptations of fairy tales Astrid Lingren .
Died of prostate cancer . His son is photographer Matthias Edwall. [2]
