Yars or PC-24 ( URA Index of the Strategic Missile Forces 15P165M (mine) and 15P155M (mobile) under the START Treaty RS-12M2R ) is a Russian strategic missile system with a solid mobile and mine-based intercontinental ballistic missile with a split head .

Developed by the Moscow Institute of Heat Engineering under the guidance of Academician RAS Yu. S. Solomonov . It is a modification of the Topol-M missile system [8] . Tactical and technical characteristics are not disclosed. In the future, it should replace the ICBM UR-100N UTHC and, together with Topol-M, form the basis of the strike force of the Strategic Missile Forces. On the basis of the RS-24, the development of the Barguzin combat railway missile system was carried out. At the moment, the development of the Barguzin combat railroad missile complex has been discontinued.

History

On May 29, 2007, the first test launch of the RS-24 at the Kura test site was carried out at the Plesetsk test site .

On December 25, 2007, at the Plesetsk test site, the second test launch of the RS-24 at the Kura test site was carried out.

On November 26, 2008, the third test launch of the RS-24 at the Kura test site was carried out at the Plesetsk test site.

The timing of the completion of state tests of the IBR RS-24 Yars indicated various information: some said the completion of the GI in 2010 [9] , while other sources (the chief designer of the complex ) reported that the GI was completed in late 2009 [6] , which seems to be related to the difference in the timing of the actual completion of the state test program and the timing of the execution of the relevant documents and the elimination of the comments identified at the GI stage.

At the end of 2009, the Russian military-industrial complex delivered to the Strategic Missile Forces (RVSN) the first combat unit of the RS-24 Yars mobile missile systems, equipped with multiple warheads. The second division with the RS-24 Yars missile system was put on trial combat duty in the Teikov missile division (Ivanovo region) in December 2010. In 2013, the Russian Strategic Missile Forces began rearming the Novosibirsk and Kozelsky missile formations, and the rearmament of the missile regiments of the Tagil missile division was almost complete [20] . According to media reports, the Votkinsky plant will supply the Defense Ministry of the Russian Federation in 2016 about 20 missiles. [23]

As of September 2017, a total of 110 RS-24 Yars missiles are in service with the RVSN - 90 (10 regiments) mobile and 20 (2 regiments) mine.
