Ruhr University

The Ruhr University in Bochum ( German: Ruhr-Universität Bochum , abbr. RUB ) is the first new university to open in post-war Germany . It was founded in 1962 . The educational process at the university began in 1965 .

The University was one of the first universities in Germany to introduce the standard assignment of bachelor and master degrees .

As of January 2007, 33,685 students and about 4,000 teachers (400 professors) were studying at the university. As of October 2011, 34024 students are studying at the university (48% are women) [2] .

Ruhr University is closely connected with the Russian-German Institute of Science and Culture of Moscow State University M.V. Lomonosov . It operates the Institute of Russian Culture named after Yu. M. Lotman .

The University is part of the Utrecht Network Association of European Universities and the University Alliance Metropole Ruhr (Universitätsallianz Metropole Ruhr, UAMR). As part of the alliance, students and graduate students receive a single student ID card and can attend classes and libraries of three universities: the Ruhr University in Bochum, the Technical University in Dortmund and the University of Duisburg-Essen.

International cooperation

The percentage of foreign students varies from faculty to faculty, but averages about 10%. Training is also being conducted in English. Researchers from abroad are actively invited to participate in research projects and teaching.

ConRuhr Coordination Offices provide information and organizational assistance in establishing scientific and educational contacts between the Ruhr University and universities in the Americas, as well as Eastern Europe. Such a bureau dealing with cooperation with Russian universities is in Moscow [3] .
