Tara River Canyon

The Durmitor National Park , created in 1952, includes the Durmitor massif , the canyons of the Tara , Sushitsa and Draga rivers, as well as the upper part of the Komarnitsa plateau . It is a vast plateau with a total area of 390 km² and located at an altitude of 1,500 m above sea level [2] . In 1980, listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site .

The national park includes the canyon of the Tara River , with a length of 80 km and a depth of 1300 m . It is the first largest canyon in Europe and the second largest in the world [3] , following the Grand Canyon in Arizona , USA .

Tourism

The Durmitor massif is the center of mountain tourism of Montenegro. Tourism infrastructure is concentrated around the city of Zabljak .

In winter, the main sports are skiing , snowboarding . In summer, you can go climbing and hiking . Among the most significant sights are 18 glacial lakes . The most famous is Crno-Jezero ( Serb. Crno Jezero , doc. "Black Lake").
