Vashcan ( port. Rio Vascão ) - a river in Portugal , the right tributary of the Guadiana River. The river catchment area of 443.31 km² from December 3, 2012 is a , subject to protection under the Ramsar Convention [1] . The length of the river is about 69 kilometers, which makes it the largest river in Portugal, whose channel has retained its natural shape and is not blocked by dams [2] .

It begins in the mountains of Serra de Caldeiran at an altitude of about 550 meters above sea level [2] . On a significant part of its channel, it is the border between the districts of Beja and Faro (also between the provinces of Alentejo and the Algarve ), flows through the territories of the municipalities of Almodovar , Merthola , Lole and Alkotin . It flows into Guadiana from the right side at an altitude of about 10 m above sea level [2] .
The tributaries of the river are Ribeira do Vashcanito and Ribeira do Vashconsilla .
