Biography and Creativity
As a child, he lost his father. At the age of 15, he discovered impressionism . He studied at the National Higher School of Art with Jean-Leon Jerome . In 1884, Elle was invited to the family of the French artist Guerin to paint a portrait of his daughter, 14-year-old Alice Guerin. In 1886, a 16-year-old girl became the artist's wife and his muse for life.
Ellie masters the technique of dry needles and becomes one of the first artists to use this technique in its pure form after three engravings by Dürer in 1512. Elle performs about 1,500 works using the dry needle technique. Among them, interesting portraits of figures of a beautiful era prevail, most often women, the most famous of which is the portrait of the Parisian courtesan Liana de Puzh . Often his wife Alice Guerin is portrayed as a woman with long red hair.
Ellie was also friends with Robert de Montesquieu , Giovanni Boldini , John Sargent , Marcel Proust (he left Proust's drawing on his deathbed).
