Biography

He began his professional career at Blackburn Rovers in 1996. He made his debut in the first team in 1997 in the last match of the 1996/97 season against Leicester City .

In his first full season ( 1997/98 ) he proved himself as a promising young player, scoring 4 goals. Despite Blackburn relegating the following season, he remained loyal to his club and helped him first return to the English Premier League in the 2000/01 season and then win the League Cup . All these years, Duff has been one of the leaders of the club, his contribution to the success of Blackburn is hard to overestimate. He played excellently for the Irish national team at the 2002 World Cup , having proved himself to be a world-class player, he entered the sphere of interests of the leading European clubs; in the summer of 2002 signed a new contract with the club for four years. The 2002/03 season was successful for Duff: despite health problems, he became the club's top scorer, scoring 11 goals. Before the next season, Chelsea was bought for Β£ 17 million (at that time a club transfer record). In the 2003/04 season, he played brilliantly, but the lack of trophies at Chelsea prompted club owner Roman Abramovich to fire manager Claudio Ranieri at the end of the season, and new coach Jose Mourinho bought the Dutchman Arjen Robben to Duff's position, they competed with each other for a place in roster in the 2004/05 season . Duff had a great season, becoming the champion of England and scoring 10 goals. The following season brought him another Premier League gold, but was not so successful: Duff was not in shape, played a little. As a result, in July 2006, he moved to Newcastle United , signing a 5-year contract. For two seasons at Newcastle, Damien showed himself well, played quite often, was useful, but unstable. In the last round of the 2008–2009 English football championship, he scored an own goal and his Newcastle took off for the Championship.

On August 15, 2009, Duff moved to Fulham for Β£ 4 million. In June 2014, he transferred to the Australian Melbourne City as a free agent, having signed a one-year agreement, and helped the team get into the 2014/15 Australian Championship playoffs from 5th place. In July 2015, he announced that he wants to return to the championship of his native Ireland and signed a contract for 1.5 years with the Shamrock Rovers club. On December 21, 2015, Damien Duff completed his player career [2] .
