History

Cemetery and St. Iversky Temple. Behind the temple is seen the sister building

The monastery was opened in December 2001 at the cemetery church in honor of the Iveron Icon of the Mother of God as a courtyard of St. Nicholas Convent .

In December 2002, the monastery received independent status by the decision of the Holy Synod of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Moscow Patriarchate [2] .

At the beginning of the 2010s, the monastery consisted of the St. Iversky Church with a bell tower, a sister building and utility rooms. Also in the monastery there was a fruit garden and a berry plant, part of the plants from which was donated by the Donetsk Botanical Garden [2] .

The monastery kept a list of the Iveron Icon of the Mother of God, which was written on Mount Athos [2] , by the monk Janis from the Russian Panteleimonov monastery [3] . This list was brought to Donetsk in 1999. Prior to this, the icon for six months moved by procession in different temples [4] [5] .

In March 2015, a video appeared on the network of how Ukrainian security officials shot the cemetery of the Iversky Monastery near Donetsk, where hundreds of city residents were buried. After this shelling from the monastery and graves, there was practically nothing left. The video was posted on his Facebook page by Petro Poroshenko's assistant, Yuri Biryukov. Shooting, apparently, was conducted in the fall. The appearance of the recording caused a flurry of indignation among Internet users. First of all, because of the cynical off-screen comments of security officials [6] .
