SNAP25 (from the English synaptosomal-associated protein, 25-kD ) is a membrane protein , a component of the SNARE protein complex, which mates the synaptic vesicle with the presynaptic neuron membrane and merges them with the subsequent release of the neurotransmitter .

Structure and Properties
SNAP25 is a small protein (about 25 kDa). It is attached to the synaptic vesicle membrane due to the acyl residues of palmitic acid located in the middle of the protein molecule. In the formation of the docking SNARE complex with syntaxin and synaptobrev SNAP25 provides two of the four alpha-helices of the complex. According to the structural classification, SNAP25 belongs to the Q-SNARE subgroup.
Pathology
Type A, C, and E botulinum toxins break down SNAP25, causing paralysis .
