“Estadio da Lush” ( port. Estádio da Luz ; the official name is “Benfica” ) is a football stadium in Lisbon , Portugal , the home arena of the Benfica club. The name "Estadio da Lush" translated from Portuguese means "Stadium of Light." The people the stadium received the nickname "Lush" ("Light"), and fans of "Benfica" also call it "Cathedral" ( port. A Catedral ). The stadium was officially opened on October 25, 2003 with a Benfica match against Uruguayan Nacional .

The stadium has 4 UEFA stars and is among the 25 largest arenas in Europe. It hosted the matches of the 2004 European Championship , including the final between the national teams of Portugal and Greece (0: 1). Here also took place the final match of the Champions League 2014 [1] .
Estadio da Lush was built on the site of the old stadium , which seats from 78,000 to 120,000 spectators, which was completely dismantled in 2002. The new stadium seats 65,400 people. Populous tries to use as much natural light as possible during matches. The old Estadio Da Lush hosted the 1992 Cup Winners' Cup final and the 1991 Youth World Cup finals U20, between the national teams of Portugal and Brazil (0: 0, penalty kick - 4: 2). He was visited by 127 thousand spectators.
"Estadio da Lush" took over the name of the old stadium, which, in turn, was named in honor of the Church of the Light of Our Lady (Igreja de Nossa Senhora da Luz).
