Biography
Stanislav's father, Robert Kauer, was also a sculptor . His father noticed the artistic abilities of his son early and took him to Rome , where Stanislav studied the art of sculpture from 1882 to 1905 (with a break in 1893 - 1895 ). Later in his works the influence of ancient art was manifested.
In 1905 - 1907 he worked in Berlin , surrounded by Ernst Herter ( Ernst Herter ). In 1907, Stanislav moved to Konigsberg at the invitation of the director of the Konigsberg Academy of Arts, Ludwig Detmann ( Ludwig Dettmann ), who suggested that Stanislav Kauer lead a sculpture class in the academy. Kauer was a professor and head of the Academy’s sculpture workshop until his retirement in 1933.
Stanislav Kauer died in March 1943 . The sculptor was buried near the walls of Juditten-Kirche . The tombstone was made by Kauer himself in 1938 . To our days, the grave has not been preserved.
Creativity
In Germany
In Germany , Kawer's works were preserved in Bad Kreuznach (including a monument to the artist Friedrich Müller , 1905 ), in collections in Dresden , Duisburg (Psyche, made in 1890 , in the Königsberg Museum created in this city [1] ), Königsfelde and Nürnber . In the city of Halle, there are high reliefs of the heads of two young girls on the facade of the school [2] .
In Kaliningrad
Living in Königsberg , Kauer was engaged in creative and pedagogical activity, made monuments, performed stone carvings for architectural buildings, small plastics. In Kaliningrad, about a hundred of his small plastic works on buildings have been preserved.
Nymph
The exact time of the creation of the sculpture " Nymph " (in some sources it is called "Nymph before bathing", in some - "Nymph after bathing", "After bathing") is unknown. Many sources point to the year 1906 , although the date 1907 is stamped on a pedestal. In 1922 the sculpture was acquired by the Academy of Fine Arts , where Kauer worked.
After the war, the sculpture was installed in the courtyard of the Kaliningrad House of Artists. For many Kaliningrad artists, she served as a "model".
Later, the sculpture was moved to the Kaliningrad Art Gallery .
It is interesting that there is a grammatical mistake in the carved on the pedestal of the Latin inscription by the sculptor.
Putti Fountain
The Putti Fountain was created by Kawer in 1908 . At the international exhibition of fountains “Putti” held in Posen in 1912 (now Poznan , Poland ) won first place. The inhabitants of Posen wanted to buy a fountain, but Kauer refused them, preferring to donate the fountain to Königsberg.
Initially, the fountain stood next to the Königsberg Castle . Later he was transferred to the courtyard of the Königsberg University Hospital on Wagner Street (now the Port Hospital). After the war, the fountain for decades has not been restored, and gradually fell into complete decay, repeatedly becoming a victim of vandals. In 2011, the fountain was renovated on the initiative of the Museum of the World Ocean . After restoration, the fountain was placed in the museum. The opening of the restored fountain took place on May 18, 2011, on the International Museum Day [3] .
Monument to Schiller
Kauer created a monument to Schiller in 1910 . It is not known why it was decided in Konigsberg to erect a monument to Schiller , who never lived here. Perhaps the opening of the monument was timed to the 100th anniversary of the Konigsberg Opera House, which opened with the production of Schiller's “William Tell”. [four]
In 1936, the monument, originally installed at the City Opera House, was moved to the square in front of the New Theater (now the Kaliningrad Regional Drama Theater is located there), where it is today.
Genius
In Kaliningrad, there are two versions of the relief "Genius", made by the sculptor. The marble version, created in 1903, is located in the Kaliningrad Art Gallery . The version of artificial stone from 2015 is exhibited in the Museum of the World Ocean [5] .
Reliefs on the facade of a policeman presidium
The authorship of Kauer belong reliefs on the former building of the police presidium , built in 1912. On the portal of the main entrance is a relief of the shell rock, made in 1913. The building is located at the address: Sovetsky Avenue, 3. Now the building is located Office of the FSB .
Hercules
The bas-relief “Hercules”, made by a shell sculpture sculptor, is located on the gateway of the Hammer-Teich pond in Ratshof Park. Relief created by Cower in 1913. Since 2007, it has the status of an object of cultural heritage of regional importance [6] .
Bas-reliefs on the facade of the Academy of Arts
The bas-reliefs (“Flying Nymphs”) have been preserved to this day. In 1916-1919 , Kauer decorated the facade of the Konigsberg Academy of Arts in Ratshof . Now in this building there is a secondary school number 21.
High reliefs on the building of the Khufen Lyceum
In 1922, on the northern wall of the Khufen Lyceum in 1905, high-relief glazed ceramics “Heads of two young girls” by Kawer were fortified. Since 2007, the building of the Khufen Lyceum with high reliefs above the entrance has the status of an object of cultural heritage of regional significance [7] .
Mother and Child
The shell rock sculpture, created by Kauer in 1938, was installed on the banks of the Upper Pond . In the eighties to ensure the preservation of the sculpture was transferred to the courtyard of the Kaliningrad University [8] .
Bronze Figures
In 2017, the Kaliningrad Art Gallery features bronze works by Kauer: “Spring Wind” (1933), “Young Venus” (1926), “The Toilet of Venus” (1912), “Confused” (1894-1905) [9] .
In Svetlogorsk
In the city of Svetlogorsk in the Kaliningrad region there is a sculpture "Bather" ("Standing Bather"), made by Kawer in marble in 1912. The figure is located on the territory of a military sanatorium.
In Chernyakhovsk
The memorial sign to the Lancers of the 12th Insterburg Lithuanian Regiment who died in the First World War was opened in Insterburg (now Chernyakhovsk ) in 1924. The monument is a sculpture of an equestrian rider, dressed in a loincloth and holding a spear in his hand. In 1956, the sculpture was destroyed, in 2006 - restored. In 2011, a memorial sign received the status of an identified cultural heritage object subject to state protection [10] .
Awards
Stanislav Kauer was twice awarded the Gold Medal of the city of Konigsberg, in 1934 and 1942 .
