Ground

When the active development of the suburb of Maraunenhof ( German Maraunenhof , the area of Telman Street - German Herzog-Albrecht-straße ) began, the inhabitants of the new district needed an evangelical church - there was too much distance to the Alt Rossgarten Church.

The church was laid on May 19, 1911 in King Ottokar Square ( German: König-Ottokar-platz , now a section of Telman Street). Consecrated and opened on January 12, 1913 . The construction was led by architects Mattar and Scheler. The church was erected in the Romanesque style with a large six-story roof. There was an impressive crucifix above the altar , to the right and to the left of it there were life-size bronze figures of St. John and St. Paul . For a long time the church belonged to the Tragheim community (it was located somewhat south) and was called New Tragheim. In the 30s it was renamed the Church of the Duke of Albrecht . In addition, sometimes in the vernacular church, the King of King Ottokar was called German. König-Ottokar-kirche (apparently because of its position in the square of the same name).

Postwar History

During the assault on Koenigsberg on April 6 - 9, 1945 , there were no strong battles in the Maraunenhof district and the church remained practically intact, with the exception of crumbling tiles. After the war, it was used by the German population to conduct church services (with the permission of the Soviet government). After the deportation of the German population, the church was looted and abandoned inside. For a long time, it was not used at all. Over time, the church began to collapse. Until the mid-60s, its tower towered above the Maraunenhof . In the late 60s, the church began to be dismantled and in 1970 it was blown up. In 1972, finally demolished. In the place where the church was located, tram rails were laid.

In the building of the Community Church House, which was located near the church building, the Leningrad Cinema was opened in the post-war years.

Then a project appeared, providing for the reconstruction of the church into a cinema, and it was planned to establish a group sculpture of a peasant woman and a worker on the tower. But the project was not implemented. Due to the lack of proper maintenance and repair, the building began to collapse, and the cinema "Leningrad" was still open in the communal church building about ten meters away [1]

Now in this building (Telman St., 48) is the Hoffmann Children's Music School . Some sources indicate that today in its surviving part - the cinema "Leningrad" [2] In fact, attributing the Community House to the church building itself is incorrect. It is a misconception that the cinema (and then the children's music school) were part of the church building, although in reality they are two different buildings.
