S60 was made in Volvo design, different from those that had cars of this brand in the 80s and early 90s. The S60, like the S80 , was designed by Peter Horbari, who came to Volvo in 1992. The car is built on the P2 platform, also used in the construction of models S80, V70 and XC90.
In 2005, restyling was done. The moldings on the sides and on the bumpers began to be painted in the body color, and the car also received new headlights. And the T5 engine power has been increased by 10 horsepower.
S60 R
For the first time, the Volvo S60 R with AWD four-wheel drive was introduced in 2003. The cars of 2004-2005 were completed with 6-speed manual or 5-speed automatic transmission. On cars with automatic transmission, the use of torque was limited. Since 2006, began to install a 6-speed automatic. Restrictions on the use of torque remained on the first two gears. Also on the S60 R are installed Brembo brake discs, 18 "Pegasus alloy wheels and an adaptive suspension with three modes to choose from: comfort, sport and advanced. The S60 R is a continuation of the sports series that began in 1995 with the 850 T-5 R model.

The second generation S60 appeared in 2010, the model year is declared as 2011. The second generation Volvo S60 is offered in sedan and station wagon .
The new generation Volvo S60, V50 and XC60 models are built on the Volvo P24 platform. The sedan is positioned as a competitor to the BMW 3 series , the Audi A4 and the Mercedes-Benz C-Klasse , the Lexus IS , the Cadillac ATS . Like its predecessor, the 2011 model year’s Volvo S60 is produced at the factory in Gothenburg in Sweden and in Ghent in Belgium. Sales in the European, Chinese and American markets started in August 2010.
In the new S60, Volvo traditionally made a bet on safety, equipping the car with a variety of electronic driver assistance systems. In particular, a system for tracking blind spots, a tracking system for marking, a system for analyzing driver fatigue, as well as a system for preventing a pedestrian. The latter is based on the use of a radar and video camera, with which the electronics recognize a person in the car’s path and initiate emergency braking in the event of a collision threat.
For the 2011 model year Volvo S60, three engines were offered: two 5-cylinder turbo diesel engines with a volume of 2 liters (163 hp.) And 2.4 liters (205 hp.) And a 3-liter petrol power unit (304 hp. P. ). Available transmissions - 6-speed manual transmission and automatic transmission . The latter is aggregated with a gasoline engine already in the standard version [6] .

At the Geneva Motor Show in 2013 debuted an updated sedan [7] . During the modernization, the design of the front part has changed, a digital instrument panel and shift paddles in the versions with automatic transmission have appeared in the cabin. Improved fuel performance of the engine, became available sports suspension. The updated model received a new Drive-E engine that complies with Euro 6 standards. The four-cylinder Drive-E engines have a volume of 1.5 liters (152 hp) and 2.0 liters (190-306 hp) and operate in combined with the new automatic transmission - 7-speed TF-71SC and 8-speed TG-81SC.
Volvo S60 Cross Country
At the Detroit Motor Show in 2015, the S60 Cross Country modification premiered [8] , which differs from the base sedan in increased ground clearance and exterior décor. The machine is equipped with gasoline and diesel engines, front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive. The Cross Country version also sells the V60 .
