Rasht district ( Tajik. Nogiyai Rasht ) is a district of republican subordination in Tajikistan .

The regional center - town. Garm , located on the right bank of the Surkhob River, between the Karategin and Peter I ranges, 185 km east of Dushanbe . Known from the Middle Ages as one of the settlements on the Great Silk Road , the capital of the historical region of Karategin in the Pamir-Alai Mountains.
It was founded on March 10, 1931 as the Garm region . From October 27, 1939 to August 24, 1955, the territory of the district was part of the Garm region . By the resolution of the Majlisi Milli Majlis Oli of the Republic of Tajikistan No. 190 dated April 28, 2001 it was renamed the Rasht district , in memory of the historical region of Rasht.
In 2010, clashes between the Tajik Armed Forces and the units of the Islamic Movement of Uzbekistan took place in the Rasht district.
Basis and statistics
The territory of Rasht is 5346.9 km². The population is approximately 103,057 people. The population is mainly engaged in agriculture , cattle breeding , potato growing, gardening.
The territory of the village. Garm is 112 hectares, where 1,110 families live with a total of 6,997 people. The district consists of 14 councils, 2 of them - Garm and Navabad - settlement councils, the rest - village councils. At present, there are 27 secondary schools, 41 secondary and 37 elementary schools with a total of 19,200 students in the area.
Before the advent of Soviet power in this valley there were no medical institutions, the first medical institution was created for the Red Army in 1925, and only after 1931 a hospital for the population appeared.
At the moment, the Central District Hospital is equipped with modern equipment, also 36 medical centers operate in Rasht, which provide their services to the population.
The Rasht district includes 2 urban-type villages - Garm and Navabad and 11 rural communities ( Tajik. Kamoat )  :

Nature and natural resources
The nature of the Rasht region is very beautiful, the Kamarob, Yasman and Khait gorges are considered the best places to relax.
In the Rasht district there are such natural resources as coal, aluminum, marble, coal which is mined in the Nazarailok deposit of the Yasman council, which is considered unique in the republic by the burning temperature. Including in Rasht there are mineral springs that are considered healing.
Rasht district is the birthplace of statesmen, famous artists, writers, scientists like Nusratullo Makhsum , Shagadaev, Munavar , Saydullo Khairulloev , Mirzo Rakhmatov , Boki Rakhimzoda , Mehmon Bakhti , Zafar Nozim , Khaidar Kasimov and many others.
