Produced by the Dnepropetrovsk Electric Locomotive Plant for operation on the electrified Suluktinsky narrow gauge railway and narrow gauge railway in Tekeli (Kazakh SSR). These electric locomotives were never delivered to other narrow gauge railways.
The starting point of the Suluktinskaya URD was the village of Proletarsk in the Leninabad region of the Tajik SSR , where electric locomotives were serviced at the depot. The final destination was the vicinity of the city of Sulukta in the Kyrgyz SSR .
In total, from 1970 to 1984, 24 electric locomotives of this series were produced.
Electric locomotives can operate in rafts controlled from one cabin.
According to 2009 data, some electric locomotives are still operating in Proletarsk and Tekeli.
The electric equipment of the electric locomotive largely repeats the RKSU of tram cars 71-605 and LM-68 and widely uses the nodes of these trams. The main difference is the use of traction electric motors of higher power and other resistance values of the start-brake rheostats. Since these trams have a constant parallel connection of groups of traction electric motors, this feature is preserved on an electric locomotive, which is not typical for DC electric locomotives, where switching of connection schemes is usually used.
