Kasumi, also known as “ Kunoichi of Fate,” is a ninja woman with ninja experience in the Mugen Tenshin style. She was supposed to be the 18th Ninja Clan Master Mugen Tensin, but fled to enter the Dead or Alive competition. There, she hoped to defeat Raido , her uncle, who made her brother Hayate a cripple. After leaving this secret clan, Kasumi became a Nukenin - a shinobi on the run. This means that, every day, she must run away from her former comrades sent to kill the “traitor”. In the end, Kasumi kills Raido and becomes the winner of the competition.

Becoming the winner of DOA, Kasumi fell into the hands of DOATEC , which created a clone of Kasumi. But Kasumi managed to escape (defeating her clone), and she tried to return to her village. Unfortunately, she was not allowed back, as she was dishonored.

Kasumi pursues Hayate to the DOATEC skyscraper. There, she meets Elena , who became the head of DOATEC. Elena claims that she does not want to deal with the ninja (including Ryu , Ayane and Hayate) and mentions that a Kasumi clone named ALFA-152 enters the activation phase. Kasumi makes his way through Elena and goes to the laboratory to destroy his clone, which looks like Kasumi and has a similar battle style, but consists of pure energy. Although Kasumi fiercely fights with ALPHA-152, the clone manages to avoid the destruction of the Mugan Tensin clan associated with the ninja invasion. Kasumi sees Elena enter the helipad in flames. Trying to save her, Kasumi stops Ayane, who thereby saves her sister's life, as the skyscraper explodes after a few seconds.

Kasumi arrives on the island of New Zak after learning that Hayate is there, although wondering what he can do on the tropical island. Hayate is not on the island, but Kasumi decides to stay there on vacation.

Two years after the explosion of the DOATEC tower, Elena Douglas decided to host the fifth DOA tournament and Kasumi and Elena went in search of Alpha-152. After Elena led Hayate to the Freedom Survivor, Kasumi tells them both that she will deal with Alpha-152 and leaves the ship, but Hayate, suspecting that something is wrong, ordered Ayan to follow her. Kasumi arrives in New York and asks Lisa Hamilton where Alpha-152 is located. When she does not receive an answer, the ninja defeats her. Continuing her journey, she tries to avoid the capture of Ayane, Hayate and Bayman. Enraged that she could not find her clone, Kasumi returned to Elena and demanded that she tell her where Alpha-152 was. Elena tells her that Alpha-152 is on the oil rig. Having made his way through Riga and Lisa, Kasumi finds and defeats Alpha-152, but she was soon found and attacked by Ayane and Hayate. She is defeated by them and dies in their arms, but it turns out to be only a clone programmed to believe that she is real.

The real Kasumi has been in Japan all this time, along with Muramasa in a secret village. She receives a message from a falcon sent by Ryu Hayabusa saying that Hayate was caught by the new organization Donovan MIST. She heads to the oil rig, and makes her way through Christie and Riga. Kasumi finds his brother in the laboratory, and, with the help of Lisa, successfully releases him. After Ryu, Ayane and Hayate fight Alfa-152, she has a final battle with the monstrous creation of Donovan to prevent the fourth phase of Alpha's plan. After defeating Alpha-152 and destroying the lab, Kasumi is on the Freedom Survivor, and thanks Ayane and Hayate before leaving, promising to kill Donovan at all costs.

Compared to his half-sister, Ayane (and other fighters), Kasumi is portrayed in the Dead or Alive series as a more merciful character. Although Kasumi is a deadly kunoichi, she is an honest and kind soul. She does not want and does not enjoy the fight. With the exception of the first competition, Kasumi does not seek victory. Her goal is to find Hayate. Kasumi is also prone to compassion, although she is still capable of killing, as demonstrated at the end of the first competition, killing Raido. She only wants to return home in peace.

In the film DOA: Alive or Dead , Kasumi is played by actress Devon Aoki , and her personality is rather colder than in games. She fights and defeats Leon , which makes her doubt the death of Hayate at the hands of Leon. At the end of the film, Kasumi returns home with his brother and Paradise, despite being a shinobi on the run, but she has to fight hundreds of her clan guards with her new friends to stay.
