Francis (film)

"Francis" ( Italian: Francesco ) - a biographical drama about the life of St. Francis of Assisi . The film is based on the work of Hermann Hesse Franz von Assisi (1904), first filmed by Liliana Cavani in 1966 . In 1989, the director again returned to the theme of the life of a saint [1] . The new film won the David di Donatello Prize and several other awards.

Story

The film tells about the life of St. Francis of Assisi , who was born in a wealthy merchant family, but, seeing the debauchery and cruelty of the world, rejected his former existence, and, taking off his expensive clothes in front of his father, went to wander with the poor and the sick. The plot consists of individual episodes, rather than a holistic narrative, until the appearance of stigmata on the body of Francis.

Rewards

In 1989, Danilo Donati won the Italian national David David Donatello Prize for best work as a production designer [2] , in the same year he received two Italian National Syndicate of Film Journalists prizes for best work of a production designer and best supporting actor [3] . The film was also nominated for the Golden Palm Branch of the Cannes Film Festival [4] .
