Story
The plot is based on the autobiographical book of Lillian Hellman. Julia ( Vanessa Redgrave ) and Lillian ( Jane Fonda ) are childhood friends. Julia comes from a wealthy Jewish family, brought up in the US by her grandparents. There was a close relationship between the girls, but later life separated them. Fascinated by literature, Lillian moves closer to Desil Hammett , while medical student Julia goes to Europe, where she joins the anti-fascist movement. As a result, she is wounded in clashes with Hitler's supporters, then she is engaged in the illegal transportation of funds to fight fascism from the Soviet Union to Germany.
During one of her friends' meetings, Lillian learns that Julia has a child. Later, Julia dies under unclear circumstances, and Lillian tries to find her child ...
