According to the old administrative division, it was part of the Algarve province (region) . Included in the economic and statistical subregion of the Algarve , which is part of the Algarve . - Ancient Roman Dam Alamu
- Fortaleza de Alcotin Castle (XIV century) is a castle, the main attraction of the town, built in the 14th century as a border fortress. In 1878, the castle lost its importance as a military fortress. Before the castle was classified as an architectural monument in 1973, it served as a slaughterhouse for livestock. The castle houses a museum that displays the remains of old walls and archaeological finds
