Maya ( port. Maia ) is a region (freesia) in Portugal , part of the Porto district. It is an integral part of the municipality of May . It is part of a large metropolitan area of Greater Porto . According to the old administrative division, it was part of the province of Douro-Litoral . Included in the economic and statistical subregion of Greater Porto , which is part of the Northern region . The population is 9,816 people in 2001 . Covers an area of 3.61 km².
