Story
The small American town of Gateshall (not far from Castle Rock ). The weaving mill, located near the old city cemetery, is simply teeming with rats . One of the workers is trying to deal with them, as a result he ends up in a cotton processing machine. The newly arrived in the city John Hall enters the site of the deceased. His workplace is located in the basement workshop, in which work takes place on the night shift, which is called the “cemetery”. Here he meets with a rat fighter, Vietnam War veteran Tucker Cleveland.
Soon, another worker dies in the basement, after which manager Warwick creates a brigade to clear the basement. Work begins on the 4th of July . In addition to the actual cleaning of the premises, it is assumed that the team will destroy rats. Warwick gives Tucker the task of destroying the rats in the cemetery, but during the work in the old crypt, the fighter dies from the gravestone falling on him. Meanwhile, Hall finds a hatch in the basement where, he believes, rats breed. Workers and manager go down there.
There is another production building filled with old equipment. Suddenly, one of the workers finds a human forearm there. Out of fear, the worker tries to escape along the rotten stairs, which collapse under him. As a result, he falls even lower, where he is attacked by a huge mutant bat. The workers remaining in the basement are divided into two groups, each of which is trying to independently get out. However, when wandering through the dungeon, two more workers die, after which the survivors meet in a huge underground cave, the whole bottom of which is strewn with human skeletons. However, instead of working together, Warwick attacks Hall and his girlfriend and mortally wounds her. After which the manager tries to attack the monster with a knife, but he turns out to be quicker, as a result of which Warwick becomes the next dish for the mutant.
Hall manages to climb a rope to one of the upper rooms of the factory, but a monster is also chosen there. The only thing that saves John is that the monster’s tail is entangled in the mechanism of the cotton processing machine, and after its launch, the mechanism grinds the bat into small pieces, which immediately become the objects of a rat feast.
