According to the old administrative division, it was part of the province of Beira Alta . Included in the economic and statistical subregion of Beira-Interior-Norte , which is part of the Central region . The population is 2.3 thousand inhabitants (village), 6.7 thousand inhabitants (municipality) and in 2006 . It covers an area of 508.57 km².
