Biography
Avksentiy Mikhailovich Gorodnyansky was born on March 13, 1896 in the village of Taly (now - Kantemirovsky District, Voronezh Region ). In the Russian army - since 1915 . Member of the First World War , senior non-commissioned officer .
In the Red Army since 1918 . Member of the RCP (b) since 1919 . Member of the Civil War , commanded a company and a rifle regiment . In 1924 he graduated from the courses "Shot" . Since 1938, the commander of the 101st Infantry Division .
By resolution of the Council of People's Commissars of the USSR of June 4, 1940, Avksentiy Mikhailovich was given the military rank of major general .
The beginning of World War II met as commander of the 129th Infantry Division . In the summer of 1941, the division under the command of Gorodnyansky as part of the 16th Army of the Western Front participated in the Battle of Smolensk .
August 31, 1941 he was appointed commander of the 13th army of the Bryansk Front . Successfully led the actions of the army in the Yelets operation .
In January 1942 he was appointed commander of the 6th Army .
In the course of the Kharkov Battle, the 6th Army under the command of Lieutenant General Gorodnyansky, acting on the main line, broke through the defenses of the German troops and in a few days of fighting advanced to a depth of 50 km. However, soon as a result of the miscalculations of the command of the South-Western Front, the strike force of the front was surrounded and destroyed.
Seeing the death of his troops in the environment, Avkentyy Mikhailovich Gorodnyansky (from 22 to 27 [1] May 1942) shot himself. He was buried by the Germans on the Orlinoyarsk farm in the Petrovsky district of the Kharkiv region . After the liberation of the Kharkov region, the dust of the commander was reburied at the Pushkin cemetery in Kharkov .
