By the time of opening, 6 trolleybuses of the brand ZiU-682V (built in 1981) were transferred to the city, later one trolleybus ZiU-682V [B00] was produced in 1986. During the following years of operation, the new rolling stock did not enter the city, except for the KTG-1 service trolleybus.

In 2003, the trolleybus route No. 1 was closed, but the contact network at the branch to the station was saved and along it, in the event of an accident, the trolleybus of route No. 2 turns around.
Later, the contact network at the railway station was removed, but in 2011–2012 it was restored.
There is about 10 km of contact network in operation, of which 2 km is service.

In April 2012, another 2 trolleybus YuMZ T2 No. 2023 and 2028 were transferred from Uglegorsk to Donetsk.
From 11/01/13 in the “experiment” mode, the second trolley bus was released by a discontinuous (rush hour) schedule, and from 12/01/13 the additional machine began to work constantly.
On August 12, 2014, the trolleybus movement was stopped due to the fighting for an indefinite period. Contact network is actually crushed.
