Hook ( English hook ) - a classic flank strike from traditional boxing . “Hook” in translation from English means “hook”, which coincides with the traditional Russian name for this strike. However, at present, the English name is more commonly used.
Hook - side kick. It is applied with a bent arm at the middle and near distances. It is usually performed in the jaw, but can be performed in the body, especially in the liver . It is applied both from the front and from the back hand. The force of impact is created mainly by turning the body and transferring the center of gravity .
A hook is a dangerous knockout punch. It does not require a swing, is applied at close range and, thanks to the rotation of the body, is extremely strong. A hook can be applied both with the hand closest to the enemy, and with the far one. Of particular interest is the hook from the near hand. That is, the left hook due to the fact that the bulk of the people are still right-handed and stand in battle, holding their right hand behind and the left in front. The left hand is closer to the opponent and seems to be weaker, but with a competent swing of the body, veiled under the blow of the right one, it beats on the side no weaker than the right one. This is proved by hundreds of knockouts that Ramon Dekkers ( Thai boxing ), Tommy Morrison (boxing), Andy Sawyer made with a left hook ( shoot-fighting , K1 ), Mike Tyson , Gennady Golovkin (boxing), Michalis Zambidis ( kickboxing , K1). It is also convenient to perform at the jump, as David Tua and Mike Tyson did superbly. The shock at the jump is very powerful and with the right moment of attack can easily knock down. Side impact force is basically the force of rotation of the body around its axis, coordinated with the rotation of the hips; Of course, the root of this power is in the legs. You can apply the left hook only due to the rotation of the body or due to the body and hips, but only a good push with the support foot, which is realized by extending the legs (if the blow is applied on the lift) or by bending them (if the blow is applied by squatting), followed by the transmission of the impulse from the knees to the hips and so on along the entire kinematic chain to the very fist (his knuckles) will give a really strong hook. The secret to a knockout left hook to the head is two factors:
- coordinated powerful and sharp movement of the blow with a clear arrival of the fist’s striking surface on the target and optimally at right angles to the target;
- accuracy of getting into the vulnerable spot of the head (jaw angle, temple, point behind the ear, nape).
