Doctor of Philology. He made his debut in print by the study of The Panathenaea ( lat. Panathenaica ; Bonn , 1837 ) [2] .
The author of the review essay “Medieval Church Buildings in Germany” ( German Die mittelalterlichen Kirchen-Gebäude Deutschlands ; 1856 ), a detailed two-volume guide “Museums and Artworks of Germany” ( German Die Museen und Kunstwerke Deutschlands. Handbuch für Reisende und Heimgekehrte ; 1857 - 1858 - 1858 - 1858 ), essay "The Bremen Cathedral and the monuments of art in it" ( German: Der Dom zu Bremen und seine Kunstdenkmale ; 1861 ). He is best known for his Illustrated Archaeological Handbook on the Art of German Antiquity, the Middle Ages, and the Renaissance ( German Illustrirtes archäologisches Wörterbuch der Kunst des germanischen Altertums, des Mittelalters und der Renaissance ; together with Oscar Motes , in 2 volumes, 1877 - 1877 - e edition 1922 ), as well as the Biographical Dictionary of Contemporary Artists ( German: Biographisches Künstler-Lexikon der Gegenwart ; 1882 ) and the Dictionary of Fine Arts ( German: Lexikon der Bildenden Künste ; 1883 ).
He also published a collection of "Poems" ( 1871 ).
