Kanop (Kanob, other Greek Κάνωβος or Κάνωπος ) - a character of ancient Greek mythology, helmsman Menelaus . He died in Egypt, the city of Kanob  and the island washed by the Nile  are named after him. Also named after him is the star Canopus in the constellation Kiel . Plutarch compares Canop with the helmsman of the ship Osiris  . According to Hekatey , on Faros there was a temple of the helmsman Menelaus  .
