Canop (mythology)

Kanop (Kanob, other Greek Κάνωβος or Κάνωπος ) - a character of ancient Greek mythology, helmsman Menelaus . He died in Egypt, the city of Kanob [1] and the island washed by the Nile [2] are named after him. Also named after him is the star Canopus in the constellation Kiel . Plutarch compares Canop with the helmsman of the ship Osiris [3] . According to Hekatey , on Faros there was a temple of the helmsman Menelaus [4] .
