Plus - the baker's son - was born on the street, which now bears his name; became a teacher of rhetoric . Bishop Lana made him head of the city college. He accepted this appointment in order to avoid persecution by the papal bull Unigenitus (in 1713).
He was recalled in 1749 in La Varennes-Saint-Mar, where he died later.
His work Spectacle de la nature, ou Entretiens sur les particularités de l'Histoire naturelle qui ont paru les plus propres à rendre les jeunes gens curieux et à leur former l'esprit, was published in 1732 and translated into many languages by all over Europe. Although this work encouraged many readers to become naturalists, the goal of this work was to popularize, not science.
