Production
The idea of the film dates back to the time when the film Hercules was directed by Luigi Cozzi . Cannon Films , a manufacturing company, was pleased with the film and wanted to see one of the main roles, Lou Ferrigno, in another film [1] . Ferrigno signed the contract and asked Luigi Cozzi to write the script for Sinbad. The actor liked the script and Kotstsi offered to start filming immediately after finishing work on Hercules. However, due to work on the special effects of Hercules, some time was lost and the filming of Sinbad was postponed. Later, Cozzi took up the filming of Hercules 2 , and Cannon Films was still not ready to begin work on the film. The result of all these delays was the fact that the project was given to Enzo J. Castellari .
Mini-series
The initial version of the script, according to Cozzi, was like Hercules , but the creators stretched it for six or more hours, intending to make a mini-series [1] . Castellari edited and changed most of Kozzi’s script, but the producers didn’t like the result and the mini-series went on the shelf and was never implemented. Subsequently, this six-hour project was proposed by Luigi Cozzi, whom he asked to do at least an hour and twenty minutes of material. Kozzi edited the material, finished a little more and added many more effects that were not in the original mini-series.
