He studied in Tübingen and Würzburg , assisted the famous gynecologist Friedrich Scanzoni . In 1868 , in Würzburg, he defended his doctoral dissertation “Studies on the reduction of the vaginal part of the cervix in the late months of pregnancy” ( German: Untersuchungen über die Verkürzung der Vaginalportion in den letzten Monaten der Gravidität ). Since 1874 , professor at the University of Bern and director of the obstetric and gynecological institute in the same place.
Müller's main work is a 500-page monograph, “Women's diseases in their relationship with reproductive function” ( German Die Krankheiten des weiblichen Körpers in ihren Wechselbeziehungen zu den Geschlechtsfunctionen ; 1888 ). He also published many works on specific issues of gynecology: “Modern Caesarean section” ( German Der moderne Kaiserschnitt ; 1882 ), “Infertility in marriage” ( German Die Unfruchtbarkeit der Ehe ; 1885 ), “ Uterus malformations ” ( German Entwickelungsfehler des Uterus ; 1885 ), “On the conduct of abortion” ( German Über Behandlung des Abortus ; 1896 ), etc.
