Story

The troops of the conquering king Taigat attack the village of a youth named Ged . Ged unexpectedly demonstrates his ability to magic, with the help of which he deceives enemies and throws them off a cliff. He and his fellow villagers are frightened by his abilities. Ged enters training with the sorcerer Ogion, who tells him the main principle of magic in the world of the Earth Sea: everyone and everyone has a true name, you just need to know him. The true name of the Hero is the Sparrowhawk, although everyone knows him under the name of Ged. The true name of Gedu is given by Ogion.

Meanwhile, King Taigat, with the help of his mistress Kossil, hopes to penetrate the secrets of the order of priestesses who preserve the Tombs. In these catacombs since ancient times nameless demons have been walled up, threatening peace. Taigat is sure that Unnamed is a force capable of helping him conquer the whole world. Kossil is intriguing, adding poison to the Mother Superior and doing everything possible to become her successor. But to the indignation of the conspirators, the abbess chooses the young, innocent and talented sister of Tenar. Namely Tenar, she shows the way through the maze to the place of imprisonment of the Nameless.

To continue his studies, Ged enters the Mage Academy on Rock Island. Among other students, he finds himself both loyal friends, in the person of Vetch, and an opponent in the person of Jasper. It is Jasper who provokes Ged to use a forbidden spell in the Academy courtyard, as a result of which a demon breaks out into the world. For such a violation, Ged is expelled from the academy. The demon now haunts Ged around the world, engages with him in a fight, kills his friends. Guesde is looking for a way to get rid of the curse. Gradually, he realizes that the creature that pursues him is a reflection of his own personality. The dragon tells Ged that he can get rid of the demon in the Temple of Atuan.

The impatient Taigat captures the island of Rock with the help of the traitor Jasper and makes him an archmage. Then he captures the temple of the priestesses and tries to make Tenard show him the path to the Nameless. Ged also seeks there, which helps the girl to escape. The taigat tries to release Nameless, but as a result he dies. In the depths of the tombs, Ged meets his fear - the demon - face to face and calls that real name. This is the Sparrowhawk.

The courage of Ged and Tenar expels demons forever from the world of the Earth Sea.
