Oath Rütli ( him. Rütlischwur ) - the national myth of Switzerland . It states that representatives of the three communes of Uri , Schwyz and Unterwalden (the original cantons of Switzerland) on Rütli , a remote meadow near Lake Eardwald , have given an oath about mutual aid and support. This union is popularly considered the foundation of the Swiss Union .
From a legal point of view, the creation of Switzerland is considered to be the signing of the Union diploma of 1291 .
