By education - a chemical engineer, initially worked in the specialty. On October 9, 1992, he became Guyana’s Prime Minister in place of Hamilton Green after being elected President of the country Cheddy Jagan and the victory of the People’s Progressive Party in parliamentary elections. After March 6, 1997, Jagan passed away and became president of the country. The widow of Cheddy Jagan Janet Jagan was appointed to the post of prime minister, who became president on December 19, 1997 , and Hinds returned to the post of prime minister. On August 9, 1999, Hinds resigned in favor of Bharrat Jagdeo , so that the last August 11, 1999 would become president after Janet Jagan resigned. On the same day, Hinds again became prime minister. In 2006 and 2011 he retained the post of prime minister. He held this post until May 20, 2015 , when he was succeeded by Moses Nagamuta .
