Foundation, 1950s
On May 21, 1949, by a decision of the City Council, a decree was adopted on the training of personnel of 23 people to serve electric vehicles. In October - December 1949, 480 pylons, 12 km of the contact network were installed. Great financial support in the construction of the line was provided by the Zaporizhstal enterprise. The first trolleybus fleet (an open area of 300 m 2 , near the hangar with the only DIP-200 lathe and a viewing ditch) was located on the territory of the Zaporizhstal plant. This hangar has survived until today [8] .
The opening of the first trolleybus line took place in December 1949 [9] [10] . It is noted that it was dedicated to the 70th anniversary of I. V. Stalin [9] .
On December 25, 1949, a rally was held to coincide with the launch of the first trolleybus line Zaporizhstal - ul. Bogdan Khmelnitsky ” [10] . The line began at the main entrance of Zaporizhstal and ran along other factories in the direction of Sotsgorod to Stalin Avenue (now Metallurgov). Route No. 1 connected the 6th village with the Zaporizhstal plant. The first 6 MTB-82D trolley buses then entered the line [10] (however, 4 out of 6 cars went to the route daily). The trolleybus fleet was located at the Zaporizhstal final stop. The company became known as the Zaporizhzhya Tram-Trolleybus Office (ZTTU).
The first drivers of Zaporizhzhya trolley buses were: Voloshin D.A., Konstantinov N.A., Levadniy N.I., Pinchuk G.I., Khdeev G.G., Klevtsov V.A., Sokol V.I., Ovdienko I I., Poznyakov P. M., Radchanskaya N. F. The theory was studied in Zaporozhye, and the practice took place in neighboring Dnepropetrovsk [11] .
In 1950, it was decided to build a new route connecting the Left and Right Bank, for which 3.5 million rubles were allocated [8] .
In 1953, the first trolleybus fleet was built in the area of the Aluminum Plant on the Southern Highway with a capacity of 25 cars, and special technical classes were equipped to train drivers [12] .
On April 28, 1958, a route was opened connecting the city center (on the left bank) with the right bank, through the Dnieper hydroelectric dam to the Transformer plant [8] .
1960s
Since 1961, ZiU-5 trolleybuses [12] , the main model of the 1960-1970s, entered the city’s roads. In February 1961, there were two trolleybuses of this brand, and eight became the end of the year [13] . A large number of cities preferred this particular model. The trolleybus fleet is replenished with trolleybuses “ Kiev-2 ”, “ Kiev-4 ” and “Kiev-5” produced by KZET ( Kiev Electric Transport Plant ) named after Dzerzhinsky.
In 1961, a new 4-kilometer trolleybus line was opened from Stalin Avenue (the future Metallurgists) to the former Voznesenka - to the television center [13] . The route “ZTZ - Trade Unions Square” was introduced along it.
After the construction of the dam, in 1963, route No. 3 “Transformer plant - Sovetskaya Square” was opened, which connected the new and old parts of the city [14] .
In 1964, trolleybus fleet number 1 was rebuilt for 75 cars [8] .
1970s
June 17, 1971 opened a trolleybus fleet number 2, designed for 120 cars. The park was commissioned and received 11 cars. The park was entrusted with the maintenance of routes No. 6 “Embankment - Space Microdistrict” and No. 8 “Plant“ Transformer ”- Space Microdistrict” [8] .
In 1973, the city received more comfortable ZiU-682 B trolleybuses - three doors instead of the usual two, a more modern building, more suitable for the interior of the streets.
In 1974, a trolleybus line was built on Pavlo Kichkas [15] .
In 1975, a trolleybus line was built on the Right Bank through the island of Khortitsa [16] .
With the replenishment of the park, it became possible to open routes No. 12 and No. 13. A little later, replenishment by ZiU-682 V vehicles, which differ from their predecessors by two steps on the back door, takes place.
In 1979, the following routes operated in the city:

1980s
Throughout the 1980s many ZiU-682 V trolleybuses arrive in Zaporozhye
In 1981, the second line opens on the Space Microdistrict [17] .
In 1984, fifteen routes with a length of 172.1 kilometers involved 230 cars (each with a capacity of 126 people), which allowed over 70 million passengers to be transferred per year [10] .
In 1987, the ZiU-682 V0A and ZiU-682 V0V models began to be delivered.
In 1989, there are 185 trolleybuses in two trolleybus parks, 172 km of trolleybus lines, and up to 85 million people are transported annually [8] .
1990s
In 1990, the city acquired 2 articulated ZiU-683 trolleybuses (No. 629 and No. 631).
In 1991, the first batch of new ZiU-682 G trolleybuses arrived in the city. The difference from this model from the previous ones is the special arrangement of seats that are opposite the middle door: here they are arranged in a row one by one. The second batch of the same trolleybuses arrived in 1992, replenishing fleet number 1 with 20 cars, and the second fleet with 30. In the same years, 9 articulated trolleybuses ZiU-683 were purchased.
In 1992 and 1993, YuMZ T1 articulated trolleybuses produced by Yuzhmash entered trolleybus fleet No. 2.
In 1994, the last batch of ZiU-682G trolleybuses arrived.
In 1996, the company " Intergas " gives residents of Zaporozhye 2 new trolleybus UMZ T2 (No. 024 and No. 026).
Starting January 8, 1997, a new fare has been established — the price has increased from 20 to 30 kopecks.
Almost 30 years ago, the post of conductor was abolished at ZTTU, but since April 1997 it has been reinstated. Approximately 800 conductors operate on the GET routes. Along with tickets issued by conductors, there are also season tickets.
In order to further improve passenger service, from April 1, 1997, fare is collected only by conductors directly in the salons of trams and trolleybuses. Passengers are entitled to travel by season tickets until April 15th. The fare is 30 kopecks. Composters in Gorelektrotrans already removed.
In 1997, there are 220 trolleybuses in two trolleybus fleets, of which 65 are to be decommissioned. Trolleybus routes are serviced by 134 issues daily. There are 176 km of trolleybus lines, 49 substations.

Out of the entire fleet at that time, 74 trolleybuses have been in use for more than 10 years, and by the end of 1999, 99 trolleybuses had reached their service life. About 260 thousand passengers are transported by trolley buses per day.
2000s
In 2000, the YuMZ T1 car (No. 028) entered the park No. 2. This car previously worked in Kiev, where it bore number 2411.
In May 2000, significant changes occurred in the route network. Routes 18, 19, 22, and 23 were canceled. As compensation, the output for routes No. 3 (up to 15 cars), No. 11 (from 8 to 14) and No. 17 (from 12 to 18) was increased. Route number 5 extended from Lenin Square to the Borodino microdistrict. Route No. 11 returned to the previous route — through the Dnieper hydroelectric dam, and route No. 24 “Station Zaporozhye II - Reinforcing Plant” began to run through the island of Khortitsa (repeating route No. 16 until 1999).
As of May 2000, the list of routes looked like this:

In mid-2001, Route 21 was closed. Twice as many cars (16 vehicles) were launched on Route 8. Route 20 was switched to peak operation.
On August 24, 2001, on the Independence Day of Ukraine, the first stage of the trolleybus line to the Southern microdistrict was opened - from Zaporozhye I station along Lunacharsky (Privokzalnaya) and Novokuznetskaya streets to the ring at the intersection with Avtozavodskaya street. On October 6, 2001, on the City Day, the 2nd stage was opened. The entire project cost 14 million UAH. With the opening of the line, route No. 3 was extended to a new terminus. On the route began to produce 18 cars, and later 20. Moreover, only 2 of all were peak.
In December 2001, trolleybuses appeared that ran along the test route “ 4th Southern Microdistrict - Embankment”. The test of the new route lasted about 5 months, but was not effective. Material problems and lack of rolling stock did not allow the route to assign a number as planned.
In the same year, due to the emergency condition of the Arched bridge connecting the Right Bank with the island of Khortitsa , all vehicles on it stopped, including trolleybus No. 24. The line was dismantled. In June 2003, the bridge was opened, but the trolleybus line was never restored there.
Since 2002, the crisis begins at the enterprise. In 2002, trolleybus cars No. 20 were transferred to route No. 20A "Simferopolskoye Shosse - Reinforcing Plant". After some time, route No. 20A is removed. On route number 5, which connects the ends of the city, it was decided to release 30 cars, leaving only 6 cars on number 17.
In March 2002, Route 15 was closed. During the day, it was difficult to see at least a quarter of the full cabin on trolleybuses of this route. At peak times, it was no longer required due to the increased number of cars on route No. 5. Several vehicles were removed from route No. 14 due to the same five.
KP Zaporozhelektrotrans decided to experiment with servicing the route with two parks. They decided to conduct the experiment on route No. 5. 10 cars from fleet No. 1 and 20 cars from fleet No. 2 began to service the line successfully. Now it was not necessary to let the cars out on the route very early, so that the first car at 7:30 had already completed one lap, and managed to deliver schoolchildren and workers on time, since the turnaround time of route No. 5 was 160 minutes.
In December 2002, the so-called "S-Route" was introduced - route number 8.
20 cars were overhauled (salons were repaired and painted in the original color), painted in blue and yellow, and the Slavutich beer logos were applied. This was a real gift for the Cossacks - every first Sunday of the month until the spring of 2004, traveling on the S-Route No. 8 trolleybuses was free.
At the beginning of 2003, rental trolleybuses began to appear on the streets (route No. 3, issues of the second fleet - 6 pieces). On the recently appeared route number 25 "st. Chumachenko - Reinforcing Plant ”also began to let rent. True, for the entire time this route existed, and this is about 3 months, 1-3 cars were always present there, no more, despite the fact that the turnover was almost 3 hours. Nevertheless, the lease, although not to a large extent, has taken root.
On March 11, 2003, workers exhausted by non-payment of salaries for 6 months went on strike - they did not go on routes. Already on the second day the issue was resolved, and in the afternoon everyone went to the routes to whom it was supposed to.
In the summer of 2003, the UMZ T1 trolleybus No. 030, which operated in Kiev under No. 4403 and was sent to Zaporizhia after repair, enters park No. 2.
In the summer of 2003, routes No. 7, 9A, 9B, 14 were transferred to non-conductive operation. However, due to the low payment culture, drivers were forced to work for conductors. Trolleybuses of these routes let passengers through the front door, as in many buses of Zaporozhye.
In March 2004, Route 5 was closed. At the time of closure, the release was 2 units [18] . On the 17th, 6 cars remain, 4 of which are peak ones.
On March 17, 2004, the executive committee of the Zaporizhzhya city council decided to close the tram line on Lenin Avenue on a section from the port to them. Lenin to the department store "Ukraine" [19] [20] . The compensation was:
- an increase in the production of trolleybuses from 74 units to 95 units (of which 58 are full-day, the rest are peak);
- construction of a trolleybus line from Lenin Avenue to the river port on a closed tram line;
- purchase of 7 new trolleybuses UMZ T2.
In April 2004, industrial enterprises purchased 5 new trolley buses. Three of them - No. 001 (acquired by the Zaporizhtransformator enterprise), No. 003 and 005 (purchased by the Zaporizhstal plant) went to Park No. 1. The other two - No. 032 ( Motor Sich ) and No. 034 ( Dneprospetsstal ) - to the park number 2 [21] . On May 9, 2 more cars purchased by the city were presented, which went to Park No. 2. Cars No. 036 and 038 were decorated with the inscriptions “Happy Victory Day!”. The cost of one trolleybus UMZ T2 amounted to 537 thousand UAH.
As of October 26, 2004, there are 197 cars on the balance of two trolleybus fleets, of which 11 ZiU-683 , 12 YuMZ T1 , 10 YuMZ T2 and 164 ZiU-682 .
At the beginning of 2006, about 170 trolley buses were registered in the trolleybus parks of Zaporozhye, of which 25–35 cars are not used. In recent years, the company, in addition to the planned ones, carries out overhaul repairs on BPM in tram depot No. 1. About 15 cars passed through BPM in 2005, and another 10 cars in 4 months of 2006.
In the last days of December 2005 and all winter months of 2006, a sample of the low-floor LAZ E183 trolleybus with board number 2040 (obtained in Donetsk, where it was used before Zaporozhye) passed through the city. The city authorities approved the car, and promised to buy 20 such cars for the city, but by the summer of 2006 they had changed their minds in favor of the MAZ-103T trolleybus. After the failure of the agreement between the Minsk Automobile Plant and the city on the supply of 12 MAZ trolleybuses, they again held a tender, where LAZ became the winner. By the end of the year, 6 LAZ E183 vehicles arrived in the city and sent them to the first fleet (No. 007, 009, 011, 015, 017, 019). A car with on-board number 019 was previously assigned number 013, but due to the frequent hit of this car in various accidents, it was decided to change the number to 019.
Due to the increase in the number of cars (repaired cars constantly arrive from BPM - on average 1-2 per month) it was possible to resume routes No. 5, 16, 20, 26 - all this was done from the beginning to the summer of 2007. Route 16 was closed in August 2007 as unnecessary.
In 2007, a program for the development of electric transport in Zaporozhye for 2007-2015 was adopted. [22]
In August - November 2007, another 4 LAZ E183 trolleybuses, which received numbers 040, 042, 044, 046, entered trolleybus fleet number 2.
On October 5, 2008, another LAZ E183 trolleybus arrived at Trolleybus Park No. 2, which was assigned number 048.
From August 1, 2008 the fare was 1 UAH.
From September 3 to 5, 2009, the Bogdan T60111 trolleybus was tested on the city’s routes [23] . The city has not acquired a single trolleybus of this model.
As of 2009, the length of trolleybus routes was 264 km, 105-110 trolley buses operated daily. Passenger turnover for the year was estimated at 33 million passengers, including more than 21 million people of privileged categories [11] .
2010s
Since March 29, 2010, composters returned to Zaporizhzhya trolleybuses [24] .
Trolleybus traffic along Victory Street was discontinued in December 2010 due to preparations for the construction of an overpass. Then the contact network at the intersection of ul. Victory st. Sergey Tyulenin and Metallurgists Avenue.
Since April 5, 2011 the fare has risen in price to 1.5 UAH.
On November 1, 2011, route No. 23 “Lenin Square - 4th Southern Microdistrict” was launched as an experiment, while the number of releases on routes No. 3 and 8 was reduced. However, on December 1, 2011 the route was canceled due to its inefficiency.
Since August 11, 2014, the fare has been increased to UAH 2 [25] [26] .
In the section from the Yuzhlektromontazh stop to the Zaporizhstal metallurgical plant, the contact network was damaged by fallen trees during the hurricane in September 2014, they did not rebuild and, due to the lack of regular movement of trolleybuses on routes No. 9A and 9B, was completely dismantled.
In 2015, the total length of the routes was 233.5 km, on average 50 trolleybuses went out on the routes per day [27] [28] .
In June 2015, employees of the electric service of the KP Zaporozhelektrotrans started work on restoring the contact network on Victory Street. At the end of July, the contact network was restored on the section from Metallurgov Avenue to Shevchenko Boulevard .
On July 20, 2015, on the ring near the Yuzhelektromontazh stop, the contact network configuration was changed. In preparation for the resumption of trolleybus traffic along Victory Street, a reversal ring has been mounted, which will be used by trolleybuses of route No. 9.
On July 28, 2015, the movement of trolleybuses on route No. 13 “Embankment - DK“ Zaporizhogneupor ”was resumed [29] .
On August 13, 2015, the movement of trolleybuses along route No. 9 “DK ZALK - Tsvetmetavtomatika Institute” was opened. The cost of restoring trolleybus traffic along Victory Street amounted to 2.5 million UAH [30] . For the first time in practice KP Zaporozhelektrotrans at all stops of the trolleybus route there are signs with a per-minute departure schedule.
On October 22, 2015, the first of six Dnipro T103 trolley buses from the Yuzhmash plant (No. 101) was presented. The trolleybus is equipped with a ramp, air conditioning in the cabin and in the driver's cab [28] . A trolleybus consumes one third less electricity [31] . The cost of one trolleybus is 3.95 million UAH, a total of 23.7 million UAH was spent on the purchase of six trolleybuses from the city budget [31] . A 1988 trolleybus after the KVR (No. 554) was also presented with a new cabin, a renovated interior, restored heating and a repaired electric part, casing and restoration of new soft seats. The repair cost amounted to 255 thousand UAH, the money KP Zaporozhelektrotrans were allocated from the city budget [28] .
On October 30, 2015, two new Dnipro T103 trolleybuses entered the line (presented the week before No. 101 and No. 102) [32] . Until the end of December 2015, all six trolleybuses of this model arrived in trolleybus fleet No. 1 [31] .
In 2016, it was planned to purchase 10 Škoda 14Tr trolleybuses, but then the purchase volumes were reduced to 5 units - four from Pilsen and one from Bratislava [33] .
Since November 1, 2017, by decision of the Executive Committee of the Zaporizhzhya City Council of October 20, 2017 No. 631, the fare in electric vehicles increased from 2 hryvnia to 3 hryvnia [34] .
Since November 1, 2018, by decision of the Executive Committee of the Zaporizhzhya City Council of October 29, 2018 No. 473, the fare in electric vehicles is 4 hryvnias [35] .
