Quotes
- Snegirev about the " dying nineties "
When there was nothing to eat, the relatives for all the savings bought five Chinese down jackets and we sold them together on the Cheryomushki market. Having a profit - bought a healthy piece of ham. But there was a feeling of drive. It seems poverty, lawlessness and all that, but somehow it is perlo. Although we had eaten one porridge for two years, and the festive New Year's dish was a can of fish for the whole family. Then, by the way, I worked a little as a tutor for wealthy people, looking after their second grader son [5] . |

Reviews
in the narration of Snegiryov, he again acquires human traits of what we are accustomed to consider as uninteresting, past what we are accustomed to pass without turning around, and this incarnation becomes scary. Details that are too prominent, even seemingly artificial — church candles, for example, in a birthday cake ... speak only of the thoroughness of the author’s approach, which does not save for the sake of alfochek, pathos and style. “Oil Venus”, by the way, is a picture in the style, it should be understood, of Arbat hyperrealism, naked nature against the background of birches, on which, like Danae, black oil rain is poured. The hunters before the interpretation of the symbols are given such an opportunity: Russia, hydrocarbons and bad taste, business nightmares ... [6]
The novel is full of complex, very uncomfortable scenes, but Snegiryov somehow amazingly fails to falsify anywhere. In general, Snegiryov, with all his ability to take for the soul, is not only extremely relevant, but also a very clever writer. "Oil Venus" - a good novel. It has a real catharsis [7] .
“We need to write about the book. The young author, ”the chief editor of Time Out, Igor Shulinsky told me. And, after warning that the plot was ornate, he immediately retold it at a speed of tongue twister ... [8]
Before us is a young talent, entering into a wide literary field. “Oil Venus” is not the best example of the work of an aspiring writer. Here is clearly the desire of the author to please the taste of the general public. Snegiryov writes a "light" sentimental novel, worked on the patterns of mass literature. There is a sentimental story (a down boy is one of the main characters), social satire, modern girls, sectarian hobbies, genre sketches, and scenes performed by psychologism. But all this, in fact, is nothing more than a fictional lie [9] .
The author, adhering in the course of the story of a good-natured and neutral tone, does not hide his ironic attitude to the Americans, whether they are Greeks, Indians, white or dark-skinned. Residents of the United States in his book appear as people affected by some wild pathology of character and worldview [10] .
