He graduated from the Vienna Conservatory , a student of Julius Epstein (piano), Anton Bruckner (organ) and Franz Krenn (composition). In 1909 , he was one of the founders of the New Vienna Conservatory, for some time he headed it. Among Robert’s students, Klara Haskil , Rudolph Sörkin , Georg Sell , Alfred Roze , Marcel Rubin , Hans Gal and others. Robert’s relationship with the students was extremely warm: one of them responded by acknowledging that he
it is impossible to express in words how much he meant for us, his many students who loved him as a father ... He did not have a “method”, he did not prepare “piano performers” (as he hated these words!), but for all his students, he was the most loving guide to the deep essence of music, whose secrets he knew like no one [1] .
He also acted as a music critic in a number of Vienna newspapers, in 1885 - 1891 . headed the Vienna magazine Musikalische Rundschau. Author of orchestral, chamber and piano compositions, songs, and the opera Rampsinit.
