Story
The picture takes place in Victorian times . The plot develops on a distant uninhabited island . After a shipwreck on a boat, three survive - the old cook Paddy Buttons and two young children: a boy Richard and a girl Emmeline. Richard's father and the rest of the crew escaped, but lost each other in smoke from a gunpowder explosion in the cellar .
The old cook taught children everything that they could use in order to survive in the wild. Fortunately, there were no predators on the island, but there were many fruits and small animals. After some time, the cook died, and the heroes remained on the island together. Years passed, the children grew up, fell in love with each other and began to experience sexual attraction to each other. They had a son, although the heroes do not understand how sexual intimacy is connected with the birth of a child. At first, Emmeline and Richard made plans for how to leave the island, but gradually reconciled with their existence. When a ship with a rescue expedition led by Richard's father, who has been searching for his lost son all these years, swims past their islands, they leave their existence a secret.
Soon after, they were accidentally carried away on a boat to the open sea. And, in order to avoid a painful death, the heroes, by mutual agreement, decide to poison themselves with ripped berries, after their son eats a few. The boat is discovered by expedition of father Richard. When a sailor gets into a boat with those in distress, the father asks: “Are they dead?” The sailor replies: “No sir, they are sleeping.”

The list of potential candidates for the main roles was very large, mainly due to the fact that many actors refused to star, since, according to Randle Kleizer, a couple of main characters had to walk partially or completely naked throughout their screen time. Among those who refused were Matt Dillon and Jennifer Jason Lee , who were Klizer's initial election as adult Richard and Emmeline, respectively. As a result, literally on the eve of the filming, he managed to persuade Brooke Shields and Christopher Atkins - Shields, who at that time was only 14 years old, was promised that doubles would be used for scenes with full nakedness, and Atkins needed to curl her hair.
Filming
The film was shot mainly in Jamaica and on the island of Nanuya Levu ( Republic of Fiji , a group of Yasawa islands).
