Châteaudeon Castle ( Fr. Château de Châteaudun ) - the residence of the Counts of Dunois in the city of Châteaudon , department of Er and Loire . Built in the XII-XVI centuries, it belongs to the selected number of castles of the Loire . Located near Chartres , this is the first of the list of castles of the Loire on the way from Paris .

Under Count Thibault V de Blois in 1170 a donjon was erected. A large chapel was built between 1451 and 1493 . The choir and the upper chapel are built between 1451 and 1454 , the nave and the southern chapel are between 1460 and 1464 . The famous commander Jean de Dunois built the western wing (the so-called wing of Dunois) between 1459 and 1468 . The bell tower was erected in 1493. The son of Jean, Francois I d'Orleans-Longville , builds the floors of the basement of the northern wing - the Longville - between 1469 and 1491 . The floors of this wing will be completed in the first quarter of the 16th century by François II de Longville and his descendants from the Longville family.
Chateaudon Castle includes:

Among the frescoes of the castle stands the majestic fresco of the Last Judgment on one of the walls of the southern chapel in the Great Chapel. Experts date it to 1500 .
