The district consists of 11 municipalities. Included in the Central region . It is distributed between three statistical subregions: Beira-Interior-Sul , Cova da Beira , Pinial-Interior-Sul . Previously part of the province of Beira Baixa . Territory - 6627 km². The population is 196,264 people (2011). The population density is 29.62 people / km². The administrative center is the city of Castelo Branco .
