Biography
Early career
Rice was a member of the rock band Juniper . After releasing the singles “The World Is Dead” and “Weatherman” in Ireland, the band was about to record their first album. But, having quarreled with the label, Rice left the group and began a solo career. Juniper later changed its name to Bell X1 .
After leaving the band, Rice went to Italy and wandered around Europe until he collected enough money to resume concert activity in Ireland . Permanent members of his new band are cellist Vivien Long , percussionist Tom Osander and bassist Shane Fitzsimons . The second vocalist was Lisa Hannigan . Hannigan, Fitzsimons and Osander left the group in 2007 [1] .
Wide success
Thanks to his relative, producer David Arnold , Rice was able to record the debut album “O”, released in 2003. "O" is dedicated to Irish musician Mick Christopher . The album was a great success and won the Shortlist Music Prize .
Three years later, following O's commercial success in Ireland and around the world, Rice released his second studio album, 9 . The album was recorded in 2004-2005, released on November 3, 2006 in Ireland, November 6 in Europe and November 14 in North America.
Rice also recorded one of Juniper 's old songs, "Cross-eyed Bear" for one of War Child 's charity albums .
