Biography
He graduated from the Kiev State Institute of Physical Culture . In 1976 he became a master of sports of the USSR , in 1979 he was recognized as the best swimmer in the country, and in 1980 he received the title of Honored Master of Sports of the USSR .
Initially he trained with the Mariupol coach Viktor Vangeliev , then with Vera Smelova . [one]
Sidorenko won the USSR championship in complex swimming 20 times in the period from 1977 to 1986 . July 9, 1978 in Moscow set a world record at a distance of 200 m, which lasted until August 2 .
Participating in the 1980 Summer Olympics became the champion in the 400 m discipline with a score of 4: 22.89, which became a new Olympic record. A year later, he won the European Championship at a distance of 200 m (2: 03.60), and at the 1982 World Championships again excelled in this discipline with a record of championships (2: 03.30).
On September 11, 1982, he married the bronze medalist of the 1980 Olympic Games in swimming, Elena Kruglova , in 1989, their son Alexander was born.
After completing his sports career in September 1987, Sidorenko became the coach of the Illichivets water polo team, and after 10 years her chief. Now retired. Freeman of the city of Mariupol .
