Biography
He studied mathematics and natural sciences in Berlin and Greifswald , in 1844 - Doctor of Philosophy, in 1852 he moved to Brazil ; Here Müller first lived as a colonist, then in 1856 he became a teacher in a school in Esterro on the island of St. Catherine, where he became acquainted with the fauna of the sea and collected materials for his work.
In 1867 , Müller was forced to resign as a result of the Jesuit invasion of the gymnasium and settled in Blumenau , among the virgin forests, where he mainly studied the life of insects and their relationship to the plant world. Muller was one of Darwin's most talented followers and contributed a lot to the development and dissemination of theories of evolution, selection, etc.
Müller's scientific research mainly deals with Darwinism , biology , phylogeny of lower animals and plants, symbiosis, and many others. his most important work: “Für Darwin” (contains a magnificent description of the history of the development of crustaceans, 1864 ); in this work, Müller for the first time clearly stated the basic so-called biogenetic law . Muller's other works concern the anatomy and embryology of lower marine animals, the mutual relations of insects and flowers, etc.
