In June 1947, the Saar brand was introduced in Saarland . On November 15, 1947, the French government was authorized to introduce French currency in the Saarland to bring the economy of Sarah to the economy of France. The Saar Mark was exchanged at a 20: 1 exchange rate.
Since January 15, 1948, the French franc has been the only official currency in the Saarland. Before minting their own coins in 1954, exclusively French coins were in circulation.
As a result of the referendum, the Saarland became the tenth federal state of Germany on January 1, 1957 . Economic integration was carried out on July 6, 1959 . On this day, the German mark replaced the French franc .
The course was 100 francs = 0.8507 German marks or 1 mark ≈ 117.55 francs.
Coins
The coins corresponded in weight and size to the coins of the French franc and differed from it only in motive. Coins of 10, 20 and 50 francs (year of minting - 1954) depicted the mine and coat of arms of Saar. On coins of 100 francs (year of minting - 1955), a coat of arms framed by a wreath was depicted.

Banknotes of the Saarish franc were not made, in circulation were exclusively French with the inscription “Territoires occupes” - occupied territories.
