Group History
The band was founded in 1995 by vocalist and guitarist Christoph von Friedorf, drummer Stefan Finauer (with the band until 2003) and bassist Jamie Richardson in Bavarian Sheftlarne, near Munich. The name of the group, Emil Bulls, comes from the eponymous children's film. Soon guitarists Stefan Karl and Franz Vikenhäuser joined the group (as part of the band until 1999).
In 1996, the group independently recorded their first Red Dick's Potatoe Garden CD , which was released in limited edition. A year later, the band participated in the Emergenza Young Musicians Competition, taking third place. For their performance, they invited DJ Paul Rzyttka (also known as DJ Zamzoe), who provided electronic effects. After the festival, DJ Zamzoe became a regular member of the group. This was followed by a series of live performances.
In 2000 the album Monogamy was released, recorded on indie label Oh My Sweet Records in Munich. This album could be bought only on the Internet and at concerts of the group. The group became interested in the record company Island Records , with which they immediately signed a contract and re-recorded under the direction of Wolfgang Stach, the producer of Guano-Apes , all the songs from the album Monogamy , as well as three new ones (among them, a joint composition with vocalist Such A Surge, recorded when- then during a joint tour). The resulting album was named Angel Delivery Service and was released as early as October 2001. In the ensuing reissue of the album, a cover version of the song Take On Me by A-Ha appears on the album, often performed by the group at concerts.
In the period prior to the release of their next album Porcelain in May 2003 (recorded already at Motor Studio), the group gave 129 concerts, including performances in small clubs and at big festivals, for example, at the Rock am Ring festival. In August 2003, drummer Stefan Finauer left the band, announcing his decision on the band’s website. He wanted to continue his studies in Munich, thereby choosing a more “reliable” way of life. The band is going on a North American tour.
On June 20, 2005, the Southern Comfort album was released on the Pirate Records label and at the same time on the US label Track1 . In their further live performances, the group had to do without an electronic engineer, DJ Zamzoe decided to work with the group only in the studio.
In February 2007, the acoustic album The Life Acoustic , recorded in the summer of 2006 during a band's performance in Pullah on the occasion of its 1200th anniversary, appeared.
The next album, recorded on the Drakkar label, appeared under the name The Black Path on April 4, 2008. Producer Benny Richter ( Caliban , Krypteria, Butterfly Coma) and sound producer Jacob Bernhart participated in his recordings. The single from the album The Most Evil Spell can be downloaded for free from MySpace .
In 2009, the band was left by guitarist Christian Schneider, who played for 10 years, replaced him with Andy Bock.
September 25, 2009 released the album Phoenix, written literally two weeks in the town of Allgäu. Already in October, the first Phoenix Tour began, gathering thousands of fans in various German cities.
In early 2010, Emil Bulls released the video for the song "Nothing In This World". And on April 23, the first DVD of The Feast (live version) was shown in Munich.
