History
The settlement was founded in 1604 by Franciscan monks led by Fray Alonso da la Oliva, called San Francisco de Coyamus. In 1645, the mission engaged in the evangelization of the Indians of the tribe Konchoss , Who lived on these lands along the river Konhos , was destroyed by the Indians of other tribes.
In 1685, General Juan Fernandez de Retana restored the settlement in the form of a prison under the modern name.
In the period from 1700 to 1710, the church of St. Francis of Assisi was erected in the settlement [4] .
