Story
Paris is at the mercy of terror , against which the police are powerless. The criminal organization , known as Vampires, commits pogroms, murders, robberies, abductions. Their actions are accurate and bold. Nothing is known about the gang of villains, except that they have the Great Vampire at the head and his seductive partner, Irma Vep. Journalist Philip Gerande, investigating the murder of a government official, attacks the trail of Vampires. So begins his long work, thanks to which he wants to rid Paris of this scourge . Mussidore plays a mysterious seductive thief who constantly appears in secular circles and is actually one of the dangerous members of the gang. Her heroine appeared on the screen in the image of the secular beauty, singer, telephone operator, maid, etc.
Artistic features
The series "Vampires" was extremely popular in France in wartime.
During the filming, Fayad improvised with a script depending on the circumstances. This film was not a typical multiseries film of its time, as its weekly issues were not supported by stories in a major press. The content of each picture was printed in separate little books written by the popular novelist Georges Meirs , and published by the publisher Taiande. [one]
“... Without the support of the influential newspaper Vampires, they were less popular than Helen’s Adventures , although they preceded the militant Pearl White , who began to appear in November 1915 ...” ( Georges Sadoul [1] )
The series made a very popular actress Muzydoru , the first femme fatale in cinema history. Her black suit is very much in line with her image and at the same time she was very walking to her, her gaze from the screen on the audience was fascinating, the film audience of that time admired her.
The film "Vampires" is regarded as a masterpiece of the genre of criminal thriller (although it was shot before such a genre has developed). With the recent release on DVD, the series has found a new generation of fans. Authoritative critic Jonathan Rosenbaum counts "Vampires" among the heights of world cinema. [2]
Louis Aragon and Andre Breton about the film: “... Soon everyone will understand that there is nothing more realistic and at the same time poetic than kinofeletony, which were at one time the joy of all free minds. In Helen's Adventures and in Vampires, the great essence of our age was revealed, regardless of fashion and the tastes of the public. Come with me and I will show you how the story is written: this is 1917 ! ” [1]
