History
In pre-Hispanic times, the Altlisintla settlement was located here. In 1518, the conquistador Pedro de Alvarado arrived in these places, and named them in his honor. In 1563, Juan de Sahagun built a port here. The first census recorded here in 1609 20 landowners and 236 blacks. At the end of the XVIII century, 330 families lived here, in total there were more than 1300 people. In 1816, the Spanish king granted the settlement urban status (Villa).
In 1878, Alvarado became a city (Ciudad).
