Design
The ball design symbolizes the countries hosting this championship - Austria and Switzerland . The image of the national flags of these two countries was introduced into the Europass design, presented in the form of eight silver rings formed by the Austrian and Swiss flags . According to Adidas, the black and white color is an echo of the standard colors of soccer balls of past years, while thin lines emphasize its modern content [1] . Twelve black dots contain graphic elements developed by UEFA as a supplement to the EURO 2008 logo [2] .
According to press reports, the generalized results of testing the technological and functional characteristics of the ball, conducted by Loughborough University in England and the Adidas football laboratory in Scheinfeld , Germany , confirmed the quality of the Europass ball, which meets modern requirements [2] .
Technical innovations of this model
- Adidas Europass is the first soccer ball in the world to use PSC-Texture coating technology (“goose bumps”) - a special structure for covering the surface of the ball that allows players to make more accurate and powerful shots, as well as tighten the ball, more precisely controlling its flight in all weather conditions [1] . Professional footballers who have tried it in practice rate it much higher than its predecessor - Roteiro [3] .
- The tire cover is similar in design to the earlier Teamgeist and is composed of 14 parts. The new cut allows you to reduce the number of points of corner joints of the three parts by 60% (60 for the standard and 24 for Europass) [1] . The total length of the joints was reduced by more than 15% [1] .
