History
The city was founded on July 25, 1533 by the Spanish conquistador Nuno de Guzmán, under the name Villa de Santiago de los Valles de Ohitipa, abbreviated as Villa de los Valles (“Village among the valleys”). On October 5, 1827, Villiers de los Valles was given the status of a city (“Ciudad”) and the village was renamed Ciudad Valles.
