Lucas conceived the film as the beginning of the trilogy, but the box office failure forced him to curtail plans for subsequent parts, although in 1995, 1996 and 2000, he co-authored with Chris Clairmont published a sequel trilogy in the form of books.

The film was directed by Ron Howard in his youth film Lucas " American Graffiti " ( 1973 ). 30 years after Willow, he released his second tape for Lucasfilm, Han Solo. Star Wars Tales ”( 2018 ).

Story

Fairyland is ruled by the evil sorceress of Bavmord. She learns about the prophecy, according to which the cause of the fall in her power will be a girl with a special birthmark. By her order, all pregnant women are put in prison, where one of them gives birth to a daughter, Elora Danan, the same girl from the prophecy. Knowing this, her mother persuades the midwife to save the child and that secretly manages to take the girl out of the Bavmord castle. The mother was later executed, and the midwife was tracked down and, following her trail of Bavmord, allowed her dogs to overtake her near the river. Knowing that she cannot be saved, the midwife builds a small raft for Elora and lets her go with the stream, after which she dies. Upon learning that Elora is alive, Bavmorda sends in her search a whole army led by her daughter, a beautiful warrior , Sorsha and the merciless General Kyle.

The baby, having escaped death, ends up in the village of non-Levins, a short, good-natured and brave people. The humble farmer and budding wizard Willow, whose children found Elora on the banks of the river, embarks on a dangerous journey to take the baby to Tir-a-Slyn Castle, where she will be safe under the protection of the king and queen.

He is assisted by Madmartigan, a con man, but a skilled and valiant warrior, and two small goblins , Rule and Franjin. First they go in search of the good sorceress Fin Raziel, who Bavmord turned into possuma and exiled to the island in the middle of the lake. However, when Willow, along with the enchanted sorceress, returns to the shore, Kyle's soldiers capture him, Madmartigan, and Elora, and deliver them to their camp. However, they manage to escape.
